Time Out says

With a collection of works from such artists as Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella and Ana Mendieta, not to mention some high-caliber traveling exhibitions, this relatively young museum (formerly Miami Art Museum) is worth a look. Family-friendly interactive programs bring art home: during free Second Saturday (of the month) programs, museum teachers lead families in hands-on activities inspired by the works on display, while Third Thursdays play host to evenings of music and entertainment.

What’s on

Elliot & Erick Jiménez: El Monte

Elliot & Erick Jiménez: El Monte is the Cuban twin photography duo’s first solo museum exhibition, marking their leap from award-winning image makers for the likes of Prada, Tiffany’s, Bad Bunny and Selena Gomez to multi-disciplinary artists on an institutional stage. Inspired by the Afro-Caribbean spiritual tradition of Lucumí and Lydia Cabrera’s seminal text El Monte, the show centers on a womb-like, chapel-meets-forest installation alongside photographs and sculptural works that explore spirituality, ancestry and identity.

Black History Month at PAMM

February 5 at Pérez Art Museum Miami brings together literature, contemporary art, and music as part of the museum’s Black History Month programming. The evening begins at 5pm with a book signing by author and curator Rianna Jade Parker, whose book, A Brief History of Black British Art traces the artists, movements, and institutions that have shaped Britain’s cultural landscape. At 7pm, hear British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové discussing his practice and the monumental public works currently on view in the Miami Design District, as part of PAMM's Scholl Lecture Series. From there, the night shifts outdoors for Thursdays at PAMM, the museum’s free monthly after-hours series. From 8–10pm, Pressure Point takes over the waterfront terrace with Caribbean-leaning sounds.

PAMM Art + Soul Celebration Honoring Fab 5 Freddy

Art + Soul returns to Pérez Art Museum Miami for its 13th year, supporting the PAMM Fund for Black Art. This year's honoree is Fab 5 Freddy. A pioneering figure in hip-hop and contemporary art, Freddy was the original host of Yo! MTV Raps and a key force in bringing graffiti and street culture into galleries and museums. The evening includes cocktails, a seated dinner by Chef Raheem Sealy, a program hosted by Neki Mohan, and a late-night celebration with music and dancing along Biscayne Bay. Tickets for the dinner start at $2,500, while access to the late night celebration begins at $200. If the celebration isn’t in the cards, catch Fab 5 Freddy in conversation with PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans the night before at PAMM. The February 6 talk looks at his creative path—from graffiti and early hip-hop to film, television, and his upcoming memoir Everybody’s Fly. It’s free with museum admission and will also stream online.
