Free gigs, encompassing all music genres, take place across the country and around the world as part of this festival for the summer solstice on June 21 2017. The annual Parisian festivities for the Fête de la Musique are particularly special, with concerts taking place in theatres, bars, on street corners, in parks and even on balconies. In the past some musicians have even been known to serenade folks while teetering on the edge of their apartment windows.

As ever, to really get the most of all the planned and pop-up gigs, you can buy a €3 ticket granting you unlimited travel on public transport from 5pm on June 21 until 7am on June 22.
