Five things to do this weekend

Updated: 26 Jul 2013

It’s your time to take a break, forget about thinking and let us do all the work. We’ve planned a weekend itinerary for you to while away both Saturday and Sunday in Penang.

Scent-ful Festival
The two-month long Penang Durian Festival is almost coming to an end. Catch a whiff of it this weekend before the season ends on July 31. Take a slow, cool drive on the scenic windy road to Balik Pulau and head up to Anjung Indah there on Jalan Tun Sardon by 11am.

DJ Dano at Jammin’, July 27
Cool down from the durian fest with music and a bottle of gourmet Italian beer at Jammin’ while German-born DJ Dano hits the decks with some funky hits. Spinning alongside him to keep the party going is Mr. Congas 'Don' Fahmy. Party starts at 9pm.

Francis Light Cemetery Tour, July 28
Inject a bit of history into Sunday with this 45-minute tour honouring Captain Francis Light who is a significant part of the island's history. It will push-off from the Little Penang Street Market information counter on Upper Penang Road. Call them to register before the tour day. Remember to be there 10 minutes before tour begins at 2pm this Sunday.

Cars, Cars, Cars
It seems to be a weekend of car displays here in Penang. In Gurney Plaza, don’t miss out on a vintage car display while a stone’s throw away, at the newly opened Gurney Paragon, they’re having five Maserati and 23 Ferrari cars on display. Both malls open at 10am.

Plan a Fairytale Wedding, July 28
After drooling over the lovely cars in both malls, hop on over to G Hotel that’s sandwiched between the two for this wedding fare. It’s a little more than the usual wedding expo. You’d get to win from their lucky draw with heaps of prizes amounting to RM30,000 and while you browse, there’ll be tea and coffee available throughout the day too. Starts at 11am.
