Five things to do this weekend

George Town Festival 2013 kicks off tomorrow with a host of events to colour up the last school holiday weekend but there are also a colouring session for the kids, a roof-raising party for the adults and a boat race for the sporty ones.

GTF 2013 Presents Taking Off
The launching of GTF 2013 this year will see kites flying in the sky during this event at 3pm and a kite-making workshop for 100 registered participants at 12pm on June 8. Besides that, there’s a Muslim culinary journey waiting for you in Feasts of Penang, a Laotian embroidery exhibition Memories of Gold, an unconventional exhibitionEight Movies: Par Fumare, the unveiling of theThe Theatre of Ships and Secret Gardens of Earthly Delights.

Thai Festival at Penang Times Square
Enjoy all aspects of Thai culture, food, arts and craft as well as martial arts here. You get to sample authentic tomyam and mango sticky rice or catch all the Muay Thai action. The festival starts at 10.30am and goes on till evening.

Penang Dragon Boat Festival
This event is an awe-inspiring one, from the multi-coloured boats to the steady beat of the rowers’ drums. The event starts at 9am on both days. There’s a shuttle bus service to avoid traffic too, details here. 

White Party at Room Auto City
Roof-raising beats will get your heart pumping and it’s all the fault of DJs Mr. Nasty & Guru Guru as well as special performances by DJ Celia K, DJ Twister, DJ Menu and Soul Sound Band. Remember, to put on something white to respect the theme. The party starts at 8pm.

Sunday Crayon Colouring Session
Brighten up your kid’s last Sunday of freedom with this colouring session. It’s open to children aged 12 and below. Although admission is free, prior registration is advised to secure a seat. Pack your own crayons as well as a colouring board and a stool if needed. There’ll be a little souvenir as a reward to take home too. Colouring begins at 9.30am.
