Five things to do this weekend

Updated: 23 May 2013

It’s a long weekend and to our Buddhist readers, we wish you Happy Wesak Day. Besides the spectacular Wesak Day Parade this weekend, there’s plenty of things happening for you to while away your time in Penang. Here are some ideas.

Sundowner at Beach Blanket Babylon
Between 5pm and 7pm, there’s a RM28++ special happening at the beach side bar and restaurant of Beach Blanket Babylon. Within these two hours and that little money will buy you a tray of canapés plus either a glass of house wine or Hoegaarden. So far, we find this to be the best Happy Hour deal around town.

Japanese Film Caravan 2013
Brought together by the Japan Consulate-General of Penang, the Japanese Film Caravan kicks off a series of Japanese film screenings featuring blockbuster hits and film festival regulars. This week, award-winning Japanese anime 'The place we promised in our early days' gets the spotlight. This monthly screening aims to foster friendly ties and promote mutual understanding between Malaysia and Japan.

Chocolate Dessert Buffet at Soy
Oh, do indulge! There’s nothing like something sweet to mark a holiday weekend. At G Hotel’s Soy restaurant, there’s a buffet for the sweet tooth. Their Chocolate Dessert Buffet is where you can savour various delectable chocolaty offerings at RM45++ per adult.

Weekend Market in New World Park
A little retail therapy without breaking the bank? Here’s where clothes, handmade accessories and fresh from the oven snacks can be found at reasonable prices. A good rule of thumb when buying non-food items, remember to bargain for the best prices. The market opens at 11am till 11pm.

Faizal Tahir Live at Hard Rock
Award-winning Malaysian rocker Faizal Tahir will be performing in Hard Rock Cafe on May 26. Rock along with him as he belts out his feel-good tracks including 'Karma', 'Hanyut' and 'Bercinta' that went to earned himself a few awards at our recent Anugerah Juara Lagu. Entrance fee is RM50 inclusive of one drink and the show begins at 9pm.
