Five things to do this weekend

Updated: 3 May 2013

It’s elections weekend and everyone’s on tenterhooks about the results. Here are our recommendations on how and where to de-stress and have some fun in Penang.

Super Stylish Shopping, May 4
Retail therapy more often than not helps with de-stressing. This sporadic mobile bazaar offers chic, one-off products from fashion accessories to handmade household items. There’s always a new and pretty thing that’ll catch the eye here. Go on, treat yourself to something nice, if not a loved one. It starts at 10am in Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa.

Hard Rock Hotel’s Ultimate Foam Party, May 4
It’s a party in a huge bubbly tub accompanied by rockin’ pop music and like-minded fun ‘peeps’. Here’s where party goers can look forward to dancing, DJs spinning live sets and even a contest or two while sipping drink specials all night. While the kids' foam party ends at 7pm, the adults' party begins at 7.30pm.

Caffeine, May 4 & 5
How about deliberating on someone else’s drama for a change? In this play, a suburban couple is caught in their mundane routine until the wife discovers that their coffee fanatic neighbour is homosexual and assumes that her coffee-drinking husband is gay too. It sheds light on homosexual society and stereotypes. It's at penangpac and tickets are from RM23 with a matinee show on Sunday.

G Café International Semi Buffet
If all else fails, ‘they’ say, eat! The line-up for this buffet every Sunday evening includes steaks, meats and seafood served with carbohydrate favourites such as fries, baked potato, mashed potato or rice. As if that’s not enough, there’s also endless servings of soups, breads, salad bar, homemade pastries, desserts and four flavours of Baskin Robbins ice cream to punctuate the feast. Buffet opens at 6:30pm.

Galen Sauna
How can you shed off a little excess weight and get your blood circulating well while doing nothing on weekends? Well, by stepping into an infrared sauna unit using German technology of dual action from quantum energizer and radiant heat. It’s actually simpler than it sounds. You sit, perspire and reap in the benefits of pure relaxation. It’s only RM50 for a 30-minute session and RM80 for two people to attend one 30-minute session. They also encourage you to walk-in for a complimentary trial session during their operating hours.
