SF’s best delivery and errand apps

Being sick in bed, swamped with work or just plain lazy are all great excuses to let someone else come to you. Whether you’re in need of a tasty meal or some help around the house, these are the apps you’ll want to download ASAP. We all know (and love) GrubHub, but here in San Francisco, there’s no shortage of options.

TaskRabbit From weeding your garden to picking up dry cleaning, simply describe the task you’d like completed, select the “Tasker” whose skills and rates fit the bill, and book them. Your credit card is charged, and your Ikea bookshelves get built.

Sprig If you don’t have Sprig, you’re missing out on healthy, ready-to-eat meals delivered straight to your door. Three lunch plates and three dinner plates (including vegetarian options) are offered daily. Entrees max out at $14, and delivery is always $2.75 no matter how much you order. No tipping adds to the ease of the experience, as does the shockingly speedy delivery time.

Munchery Chefs from all over the Bay Area contribute entrees to Munchery, a dinner delivery service that brings restaurant-quality goodness straight to your door. Adorably packaged and often including any necessary cooking and assembly instructions, Munchery meals are ready or nearly ready to eat. Everything from sushi to steak could be on the eclectic nightly menu, which always includes kids options, desserts and wine. Schedule ahead and delivery is $2.95. Order on demand and pay $4.50, plus run the risk of the pork carnitas tacos selling out.

Shyp It’s 2015. There’s no way you’re going to go to an actual post office. That’s why we use Shyp, which picks up whatever you need to have mailed, carefully wraps the package and gets it where it needs to go. Just upload a photo of what you’d like shipped and input a destination. Shyp does the rest, from researching the cheapest mailing option to corralling the packing peanuts.

Caviar Want your favorite foods from restaurants that don’t usually deliver? Call on Caviar to bring you Craftsman and Wolves, Dosa and Ike’s Place. YES. IKE’S. No minimum is a nice perk, as is the ability to pre-order or cater a bigger event.

PostMates PostMates will tick off your entire shopping list at Trader Joe’s. But let’s get real. San Franciscans use PostMates to get the one thing delivered to their door that they’re unwilling to be spotted getting themselves. That’s right. We’re talking about fast food. In 2014, one of the most popular PostMates order spots was Taco Bell. Which makes sense, as Taco Bell is both delicious and embarrassing.

TCB Courier San Francisco is famous for three things: cable cars, sourdough bread and bike messengers. The gritty, grinning couriers of TCB zip all over town on two wheels to get you what you need. We particularly love to use them for flower deliveries. In a town full of slick tech start-ups, TCB Courier is the old-school way to get banh mi and a biker to your door.
