When Federal first opened, it was fantastic. We used to go three or four times a week to enjoy the great food, atmosphere and vibe there, however once the original owner (I think) left, the place changed and nowadays the service staff are so miserable that we seldom go. Recently some visiting coffee lovers asked where to go and we suggested Federal, Caravelle and Satan's Coffee Corner, but warned them of the service issues. Needless to say, they found the service awful too. The manager, when he is there, is delightful - he's the guy with the red band tattoo, but I have no idea what the issue is with the rest of the staff - it's as though you are an inconvenience there and they're put out having to serve customers and do their jobs. Quite extraordinary given the huge competition that they have in that area alone now, not to mention in Barcelona, like Caravelle, where you feel spoilt and the food and drinks are just as good, if not better! Do yourself a favour and visit Federal, check if the manager is on duty, get served by him. If not, walk 15 mins to Caravelle and experience a far better drink/meal/time out.

This restaurant would not look out of place in the trendiest, most cosmopolitan of cities. Natural light, tasteful decor, good music, fast, friendly service and a menu specialising in breakfasts that can resuscitate you after a night of overdoing it: juices and shakes, eggs and sausage, fruit and sandwiches...
