Voice of Boston is our series where we interview local tastemakers on their favorite neighborhoods, restaurants and hangouts around the city. If you missed our last one, catch up on our chat with Ray Tremblay of COJE.
This week we are heading back to school with the help of Lindsay Rose Rando, founder of Bobbles & Lace. The first Bobbles & Lace opened in 2008 and has now grown to eight corporate locations and 9 franchise locations with more to come! She is sharing all the trends students across the Hub should keep in mind when coming back to campus this year.
What are the trends students should jump on this Fall?
Fall is the world’s Super Bowl of fashion and we can really exercise our right to accessorize with the addition of outerwear. This fall all about quiet luxury thanks to influencers like Sophia Richie. This is a fantastic trend for students to jump on, as it is casual and comfortable for class. The 90’s are also back again, with low rise jeans and rosette chokers. This is another great trend for students and will prove to be a staple theme for students everywhere.
What are some investment pieces students should buy this year?
Cargos are here to stay! Also trending are cargo skirts with a toggle or tie top making a lower rise possible. Every student should also be investing in an oversized leather or denim jacket. The secret to this baggy look is to incorporate it with tighter-fitting tops to balance. This look also pairs great with a sneaker and falls hottest trend…the chunky loafer. The rosette is another key item that is should find a way in everyone’s closet.
Any tips for creating a capsule wardrobe when you’re low on space?
I recommend keeping the key pieces (I like to call them hero pieces) neutral. If opting for color, do so with a few tops or accessories to pack a punch. Items such as jeans, cargo pants or an oversized jacket should be kept neutral. Bright colors/patterns are quite memorable and being able to re-wear the same basics with a rotation of louder pieces is key to maximizing space.
What are your favorite neighborhoods in Boston?
I used to live in the North End, and I always love to go back and visit my old stomping grounds. I also have a store on Newbury Street and love a night stroll there before/after dinner…especially into the fall and winter.
Where do you go for a late-night bite?
I love a late-night stop into Yvonne’s or Lolita…very sexy!
Name a “hidden gem” where you always take friends or family when they are visiting from out of town?
Neptune Oyster in the North End if fantastic. I also like the rooftop Eataly spot Terra.
What is your go-to Dunkin Donuts coffee order?
I prefer a cappuccino at home, but I cannot resist a half dozen powdered munchkins!
