The interior of this seven-floor hotel is designed along starkly modern, minimalist lines; the only nostalgic flourishes are the 1920s art deco trimmings, original stained-glass windows and wrought-iron elevators. The property, which previously housed one of BA's oldest publishing companies, has large spaces and an abundance of daylight.
Rooms are vast, and the best have original artworks, whirlpool baths and either a balcony or views of the San Francisco church next door. All have dark wooden furnishings, plasma screens, king-size beds and watering can shower-heads.
Up on the airy terrace, used for al fresco asados in summer, there's an impressive view of the surrounding streets, while an open-air jacuzzi bubbles away in one corner.
Breakfast is served in the hotel's ground floor restaurant, Moreno, which opened in early 2009, and the owners have longstanding plans for a 130-seat theatre in the basement.
