There is simply no other hotel quite like Faena Hotel + Universe. Designed by French master Philippe Starck, this opulent, lavish and camp lodging is built in the shell of an eye-catching English-style red-brick silo. The mastermind behind the project, Alan Faena, is now expanding the brand around Puerto Madero with the 'Faena Art District', a series of redevelopments to build offices and arts spaces in Puerto Madero, with English architect Norman Foster. The hotel continues to house the famous and wealthy in the 105 gorgeous rooms, and the even wealthier in the 83 privately owned apartments.
One innovative idea is a personal 'experience manager' instead of a traditional desk-bound concierge. The 'Universe' part is a spacious complex that includes an incredible restaurant, El Bistro, an outdoor pool bar, slick cabaret and theatre, spa, boutique shop, and gourmet market, all open to mere mortals. Faena's self-consciously au courant vision is for his guests to experience an immersive lifestyle where 'dreams are transformed into reality…'

Wonderfully designed bars, inside and outside. A great location to lounge in style and comfort, given all the plush sofas, booths, and so on. The restaurants seemed overpriced, and menus seemed like confused cookery when we visited. Sincerely, Richard Maloney (www.rundlesrestaurant.com)
