Originally used as a maritime defence station in the 15th century, Kowloon Walled City was notoriously known as a semi-lawless space made up of poorly built high-rises and a breeding ground for various kinds of criminal activity. The walled garrison city was eventually torn down in 1994 and reopened as a Jiangnan garden-style park in 1995, boasting impressive water features, traditional gardens, and historical remnants of its storied past.
