Chapter One has turned its first page and our first word for it is ‘atmosphere’. Plush leather seats, enamelled wood panelling and flooring in combination with pop art make for a comfy (but manly) hangout spot.
Like any bistro, the place is food heavy, serving a variety of western dishes with a bias towards tapas and gourmet coffee. Similar to many other bar/bistro combinations, the menu is populated with local favourites. On the bar side of things, wine bores will find comfort in Chapter One’s own cellar with a selection of fine wines, wide range of single malts, liqueur, sake, shochu, cocktails and beer on tap. ‘The Godfather’ poster here is not just for show; they have a humidor with a selection of cigars to go with it. Let out some lingering blue smoke with a game of pool or darts and you have your gentlemen’s night right there.
For a livelier night out, performers Magnifico, Bernie Be, Allan G Trio, Ashik and Nite Live will take the stage six days out of a week. They have a large projector screen in addition to the stage, so you might want to take advantage of that by booking them for your own private events or functions. Jay Chooi
