Time Out says

A brief timeline of major events related to poker: In 1970, the World Series of Poker began, popularizing modern tournament play; in 1983 the Commerce Casino opened in Los Angeles, becoming the world's largest card casino; in 2008, Lady Gaga released Poker Face, occupying a permanent spot on your karaoke go-to list; from January 15 through March 3, 2013 the LA Poker Classic will offer a slew of daily events, allowing you to watch, learn from or participate in everything from a No Limit Hold'em game with a $225 buy-in and guaranteed $250,000 prize, to the No Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament featuring 600 players, a $10,000 buy-in and a $6 million prize. The tournament is televised on the World Poker Tour and takes six days to complete, so bring your cash, your stamina, and, of course, don't forget your p-p-p poker face.
