For two weekends, the Getty Center will showcase a foreign film series that reflects the Showa Era (1926-1989) of Japan. The select films, shown with English subtitles, include Mr. Thank You, Drunken Angel, Tokyo Story, Tokyo Drifter, Street of Shame, and She and He. These films cover the struggle and the aftermath that World War II had on Japan, with a specific focus on the city of Tokyo. The series is in conjunction with Japan’s Modern Divide: The Photographs of Hiroshi Hamaya and Kansuke Yamamoto. Each film will be shown on a different day during the series. Reservations required.
