Nearly 900 of LA’s most loyal party people packed Silver Lake’s Echoplex for the infamous Dragstrip 66’s last stand on Saturday, celebrating the end of the party’s groundbreaking 20-year run. Hundreds of drag queens, cross dressers and madames in masquerade donned wigs, face paint and gowns—some drag stars representing in throwback looks first perfected more than fifteen years ago. Dragstrip co-creators DJ Paul V. and Gina Lotriman made sure attendees were treated to one hell of a salute: Glen Alen performed Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand’s “Enough is Enough,” rocking an ensemble that was split down the center—pure Streisand on one half, head-to-toe Summer on the other. Jackie Beat and Jimmy James sang their hearts out, abiding by the signature Dragstrip rule to perform live and never lip-sync, honey. And five roving documentarians interviewed those who made this landmark LA party the legend that it is—the crowd, which shared their stories of parties of yore. (Look for the "Frockumentary" to be released next year.) But the most fitting farewell of the evening was when DJ Paul V. and Gina Lotriman stripped down to their skivvies at the night’s end, a statement that DJ Paul V. said proved, “We’ve stripped it all off—and this is really the end.”
