This big, bold Mexican restaurant, which opened in 2010, is owned by celebrated chef Rick Bayless. There are lots of reasons to stop in, the first being their wide range of high-end tequilas and specialty margaritas. (The wine list isn't too shabby, either.) No worries if you're not a big drinker—the food here is the main event, and it's both rich and inventive. If you're looking to share, start with a sampler of ceviches (which includes both traditional and fusion bowls), $24, then try beef short rib or pork belly sopes, $15, or some slow-cooked sonoma duck taquitos, $14. If you'd rather keep your dish to yourself, try the lamb in mole negro, $29, salmon in serrano crema, $28, or camarones en mojo de ajo, $28. If you can, save room for the homemade desserts.
