Catch 'em while you can, because these five LA acts are headed for big-name venues and big-time fame. From folky R&B to soaring synth pop, these performers are changing the current sound coming out of LA, layering their own musical twists onto a city known for its distinct sound. Keep an eye out for the following homegrown performers you'll be proud to say you knew back when.

The soundtrack to LA

1. Miya Folick

Miya Folick is a contemporary breed of female vocalist who can express her strength and vulnerability with the twist of a phrase or howl of a chorus. Check out the dark, moody vocals on her brand new Strange Darling EP.

2. Børns

Børns is perfectly pitched between catchiness and experimentalism, and have some immaculately crafted productions and choruses on their debut album, Dopamine.

3. Moses Sumney

A true artist and singer-songwriter, Moses Sumney transcends genres. Every time he performs he stuns a captive audience silent: just with his voice, a guitar, and loop pedal. Listen for yourself on his EP, Mid-City Island.

4. Lo-Fang

Matthew Hemerlein (the man behind Lo-Fang) is a classically trained cellist, bassist, guitarist and pianist whose debut album, Blue Film, showcases his musicianship and blends a fine mix of R&B, folk and pop.

5. Alina Bea

One half of LA's beloved (and now defunct) band Body Parts, Alina Bea stands alone with her debut solo EP, Live Undone, combining confessional lyrics with electronic percussion and a wall of synth.
