With the current name dating only from 1983, after the merger of two locally based regional league clubs, Getafe CF reached the top flight for the first time ever in 2004. Against all expectations the 'azulón' team has not only stayed there but, under the management of Bernd Schuster, is looking ever-more like solid upper mid-table material, able to mix it with the best. Getting tickets for the 14,000-capacity stadium is not usually a problem as the fan base is relatively small, but may be problematic when one of the bigger teams is visiting.
