Given the band's shelf full of Grammy nominations, it wouldn't be an overstatement to call the silly-willy country-rock duo one of children's music's true legends. Playing together since 1979, the Arkansas pair is still going strong, having recently released a pair of terrific new CD/book sets based on their famous Chicken Joe character. troutmusic.com

The Jimmies

Few kids' bands reflect their leader's personality quite like the fun-loving Jimmies. As lead singer and CEO of the rousing NYC-based band, Ashley Albert is nothing short of a rock star—on- or offstage. Together with her four tip-top musical cohorts, she's churned out one slick, sugary pop song after another, including "Bonfire," a fresh power anthem for the modern girl, and "Cool to Be Uncool," an ode to the weatherman's rainy-weather forecast. gimmejimmies.com

Billy Kelly and the Blah Blah Blahs

Despite the group's ironically melancholic stage name, feeling blah is just the opposite of what you'll experience listening to any of Kelly's three kindie albums. Filled to the brim with witty wordplay, this sharp-as-a-tack songwriter is best known for his goofy XM Kids Place Live smash hit "People Really Like Milk." thebillykellyshow.com

Frances England

Frances England

This Bay Area mom writes acoustic bedroom pop that's every bit as hip as it is endearing. England produced her debut CD as a fund-raiser for her child's school; since then, she has ascended to kindie-star status, garnering critical (and parental) acclaim for her last three albums, including 2011's bombastic Mind of My Own. francesengland.com

The Okee Dokee Brothers

The bluegrass duo from the great north (a.k.a Minnesota) will release its third album, Can You Canoe?, this spring (out May 15) after spending all of June 2011 paddling down the Mississippi River writing songs (and, no doubt, swatting flies). Not biological brothers but best buds since childhood, Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander tap into the essence of friendship, love and relationships with their gorgeous Americana tunes. okeedokee.org
