Cours Saleya

Cours Saleya review Rate it

Ranking alongside the promenade des Anglais as Nice's most emblematic street, the cours Saleya is home to the city's famous flower market. Every morning (except for Mondays, when the thrift and antiques stalls move in), this wide pedestrianised street is colonised by an army of vendors perfuming the air with endless tubs of freshly cut flowers, and mounds of deliciously ripe fruit and veg. Traders travel in from the surrounding countryside, their vans groaning with the burden of everything from strings of pinkish garlic to lush bunches of herbs and sun-kissed peaches. The market is operational from dawn (when mustard-keen locals and bleary-eyed kitchen boys are the only browsers around) to lunchtime (the ideal opportunity to pick up last-minute deals on perfectly ripe tomatoes or soft, juicy pears which are a picnicker's dream come true).
