Jardin Vigier

Jardin Vigier review Rate it

Fastidiously maintained and, even to the non-horticulturalist, a pleasant prospect, this showpiece park is where the renowned Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island date palm) was acclimatised to the Riviera in 1864. The eponymous Viscount de Vigier introduced this species of palm (which has since become a symbol of the region) and it now stands alongside some far rarer examples of the genus, such as the Livistona australis (cabbage tree palm). But if botany isn't your thing, that shouldn't diminish the simple enjoyment of the serene and shady corners to be found in these landscaped gardens, where many locals come simply to walk their dogs, wag their chins and stretch their legs.
