In keeping with the splendour of its location among the mansions of Cimiez, this small (25-room) but characterful belle époque hotel has plenty to recommend it to the visitor. Many of the original features have been retained and the resultant mood of the lobby and guest-rooms is, as with so many of the aspects of the buildings in this bewitching neighbourhood, one of belonging to a lost but more glamorous era. Although it's only a short distance from the town, the Petit Palais has a sense of glorious isolation (especially on a sunny day, when the hilltop views of Nice and its coastline are quite sensational). Even now, it's easy to see what prompted playwright and film director Sacha Guitry to lodge here during his spell in Nice in the 1930s.
