Still undergoing extensive refurbishment work at the time of writing, this museum (also known as the Musée Masséna) occupies a beautiful Italianate villa built in the late 1890s for the aristocratic Victor Masséna. Much of the decor (notably in the Directoire and Empire rooms) was cannibalised from other chateaus, which have long since disappeared, making the building itself something of a historical showpiece. But the real charm of the place lies in the various artefacts on display (suits of armour, Napoleon's coronation robe and death mask), as well as the works of assorted primitive painters. Call in advance for information on new visiting hours and admission prices.
