Reopened in 2008 after a massive renovation, the museum occupies a sumptuous late 19th-century Italianite villa, built as a winter residence for the aristocratic Victor Masséna. Elaborate mosaics and freizes, ornate carvings and marble pillars evoke its owner's life of moneyed ease in a series of carefully restored rooms. Upstairs, exhibits and paintings recount Nice's history; all signs are in French.
