An 'amphitheatre of the modern world' is how this vast venue describes itself, although the action that takes place within the walls of its (52,000 capacity) outdoor stadium tends to be more musical than gladiatorial. Everyone from the late Pavarotti to U2 has played here at one time or another. But don't be surprised to find that Vanessa Paradis or Zucchero have been booked to play for the weekend that you're in town. It's nothing if not a mixed bag.
