Built between 1897 and 1900, this neo-Renaissance museum is a work of art in itself, boasting richly decorated halls, stained- and etched-glass windows, and intricately painted plaster mouldings. Exhibits are grouped according to material; in addition to the excellent 20th-century collection, the permanent, pre-20th-century collections comprise lavishly crafted pieces including furniture, tapestries, pottery, clocks, books, a beautifully preserved collection of clothing, and fine displays of ceramics and glass. Check online for details of the latest temporary exhibition: past subjects have ranged from Charles and Ray Eames' iconic furniture designs to Moravian tapestry.
