There's no more accessible theatre in Prague for anglophones than Švandovo, which offers surtitles in English for all its productions. This is a boon for anyone wanting to explore otherwise untranslated Czech work, particularly classics by František Langer and Gabriela Preissová (whose play Její pastorkyñe served as the basis for Janáček's Jenůfa). The theatre is also home to the marvellous puppet company Buchty a Loutky (Cakes & Puppets). Unfortunately, the theatre's directors, who fancy themselves auteurs, are at best acceptable and at worst uniquely unqualified.
