Constructed in 1986 using traditional methods - no nails or power tools - this magnificent garden features rare rockery and architectural materials, horticulture similar to Chinese gardens and jade-green waterways. Exquisite courtyards and pavilions are connected by a maze of covered walkways and bridges. Both gaudy and serene, the retreat abounds with Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist symbolism. A guided tour sheds light on why pavilion rooftops arch to the sky and tiled walkways zig-zag.
