A spin-off from the successful Vancouver Inter-national Film Festival, which operates it, the Vancity Theatre opened in early 2006. It delivers probably the most adventurous programming on the West Coast (think Pedro Costa, Arnaud Desplechin, Hou Hsiao-Hsien). The state of the art, 175-seat theatre puts comfort over commerce: double arm rests, spacious leg-room, excellent sightlines and a balcony. Vancouverites haven't really woken up to this gem yet, but cinephiles will think they've died and gone to heaven.
