The Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa was founded more than a century ago by Duchess Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa, who left her palace of Ca' Pesaro to the city in order to give local artists a space in which to explore new trends.
This institution - now housed in separate headquarters - is very active in organising exhibitions, collaborating with the Arts and Design faculty of the IUAV (architecture university), and with other organisations working to foster new art in Italy. There are talks, performances, an archive and an artist-in-residence programme on the Giudecca (041 520 7797, open by appointment only). The annual esposizione collettiva is dedicated to artists based in the Veneto area under the age of 30.
