Whether or not you're staying at this Venetian classic, twirl through the revolving door to gawp at the magnificent reception hall. The Danieli is split between an unprepossessing 1940s building and the 14th-century Palazzo Dandolo: the former, however, was the first part to benefit from a gorgeous makeover by designer Jacques Garcia. Ten rooms have terraces with lagoon views; all are sumptuously decorated with Rubelli and Fortuny fabrics, antiques and marble bathrooms. Views from the newly revamped roof-top restaurant - where chef Giannicola Colussi, formerly of London's Four Seasons, now presides - are spectacular.
