Underneath the arches at the north-western foot of the Rialto, jeweller-brothers Stefano and Daniele Attombri have been peddling their sumptuous wares since the early 1990s; the showroom across the Grand Canal in campo San Maurizio is a recent addition.

These self-taught designers create intricate pieces combining metal wire and antique Venetian glass beads. Not only are the designs - ranging from minimalist bracelets to jaw-dropping necklaces - unique; branching out from their antiques-only creations, the brothers have taken to adding custom-made one-off blown glass cameos of their own design into their jewellery. The use of non-nickel metal means that even those with sensitive skin can indulge. Not content with confining themselves to trinkets and baubles, they also produce interior design pieces, including mirrors and lamps.

The showrooms may be small, but the brothers' stake in the market is expanding. Their work is sold from New York to California, and their creations adorn the necks of Hollywood stars. In 2005, they made their British TV debut, appearing on a Trinny and Susannah What Not to Wear holiday special, with the two sartorial despots waxing lyrical about Attombri gems. However, it's not just the BBC fashion police who love their work: in 2006, they garnered the New Talents award at the Milan Design Fair, thanks to their 'irreverent and transgressive' designs. Go to the store and let them drape their beady wonders around you.
