El Alamo review 3 Users say 3/5 Rate it

More expats than Argentinians fill this gritty American pub, but what really gets the crowd rolling in is the free beer and free selected drinks for ladies from 6pm-midnight (with a food purchase of AR$15). Take advantage of the pub fare and mega breakfast deals, and kick back - if you are able to find an empty seat - and watch big-screen sports games while you drink your heart out.

Ok...I'm gonna lay down the nitty gritty about this place. If you want a fancy experience. Stop reading, and do not go. If you like a place that has a good crowd and just want to drink, talk, and laugh...read on.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Tim, who is an expat from Texas. Seriously chill dude. If you actually have the interest in talking to him (and he's not busy, because after 11 it got slammed), he's a really cool cat, and will take care of you very well. Throughout the night he kept coming to us offering us shots to take. I wanted to watch the NY Rangers - Capitals game, but he couldn't find it. He literally went through the whole DirecTV Guide trying to find it but couldn't. He apologized but it was cool because he really took his time searching for it.

The crowd seemed a lot of fun. Usually when people hear you talking English, Argentinians will come and try to chat with you. The conversations can be quite entertaining. I love the interest they have in our culture, and I love hearing about theirs. I had the Alamo Fries, which is pretty much nachos...but with fries instead of chips. It was OK, but I just wanted some grease in me to absorb all the beer I was about to drink.

The cover was 50 pesos, but it included food and beverage consumption. That means when you pay the 50, you get a voucher, and when you pay your first drink/meal, you hand them the voucher and it counts as 50 pesos.

Like I said, if you're a social butterfly, go there. It's PACKED, and I forgot to mention it has 2 floors above it. If you're an uppity kind of person, this place may not be the best for you and you may want to go to some lounge in Palermo, Puerto Madero, or Recoleta.

Sorry Blah, did not seen your comment till now. You too diserved some critisism for the opinion you gave about the placed.
I do agree that it can get corwded and noisy, but those are things you start noticing when you are not having fun. The personal is not rude at all, the can be difficult to reach beacause of the amount of people the bar gatthers... but the are very cool. In fact, you can try to talk to them, they always recommend me other places, and locations in the world to visit. Thanks to a bar tender from el alamo i went to morro the sao paolu this summer, and were the best holidays i ever had.

One more thing: you will find drunk people in every night club, pub or discotec you go. That is part of the idea... And the comen about american pseudo culture, gives a strong idea that you are not the easy going girl of the group... yo dont care what culture the bar belongs to.... the important thing is if it is fun or not...

Maybe you should consider having a cup of te with thomas, while you talk about falsely advertise and pseudo culture (great topics for a fun night)

Oh thomas, really? the doorman push you away? such a cruel guy...
I can see you felt a little like complaining the day you commented. Dind´t mami made your breakfast for you that day? Or probably yo were having you period...
I doesn't matter, i understand you, what you should do is look for a plan more suitable to you. I know that in some fancy hotel you have the possibility to have a nice cup of te in the english way.... or maybe you can stop being a crying baby and start having some fun, seek males lover.
Despite the fact that El Alamo is not closed at the time you mentioned, is by far a great place to go out. If you go in the noon, you can get a table a enjoy beers and something to eat with firneds, an then after midnight, the place gets full of people. Is not a discotec, but still it gathers a great kind of people and you will probably have fun there, particulary in thurddays. I have gon with just one friend, with more than 5 friends, with a mix group, and always had a great time. At about 3 am, you can leave el alamo an seek for a discotect if you don want the night to be over...

Why don't you just stay home and try to buy yourself a newlife?!?!

Terrible. First of all, this place is not open 24 hours a day. In fact, I've tried to go once at 3 AM and once at 12 PM and both times they have been closed. Secondly, the time I went at 3 AM I got physically pushed away by the doorman because I was complaining that they falsely advertise. Finally, they profess that they have "every game". This is just a blatant lie as their American football selection is limited in Sunday scope. Definitely try to find a different American bar in BA.
