Café Tortoni review 3 Users say 3/5 Rate it

Argentina's oldest café is everything you would expect it to be: grand and charmingly ceremonial. Since 1858, it's played host to a stellar cast, from the depths of bohemia to the heights of the literati and across the political spectrum. Beyond the wooden tables and marble floor a popular salon hosts jazz and tango shows.

Thank you for this nice article. I visited Tortoni cafe too ! I´d like to add the Historic cafes Tour me and my husband took this February. We visited 6 historic cafes of Buenos Aires. We loved the fileteado artwork, the vaulted ceilings, the gloriously beat-up furniture, the waiters in bowties, the checkerboard floors. Everything made for a perfect café environment. Some of the cafés were breathing and living museums.
We fell in love with Tortoni Cafe and especially with the sculpted trio in the corner. Over the years such talented and famous people sat right there in this same chair comfortably in literary discussion over their coffee. At the end of the tour we visited the biggest book shop in Latin America which has a Cafe inside and you can take a book and read it, taking a sweet coffe, and then return the book, for free !
This book shop used to be a huge theatre, really amazing. The tour company is Kangoo Tours: .I highly recommend this tour

I recently went to Cafe Tortoni..a beautiful place!! for anyone else who is interested in the BA Cafe cultures..i would recommend a tour of the Café Notables. A selection of stunning, old cafés that have been listed as 'notable' due to their cultural and historical merit by the cities government...
Cafe Tortoni is on the list too.

a wee while ago a did a tour, i found online.
it's a great way to discover the best cafe notables in BA.
i found a few gems on that tour...that i keep going back to only a weekly basis.
