Rockabilly couples swing to live DJs while black-and-white movies and other oddities play on a projector at this violet-hued lounge. Avondale 'hoodies keep the place busy on weeknights, but the real action's on Saturdays, when the owners spin new-wave club classics till 5am as part of their long-running Planet Earth dance party.

I'll be up front here. This place is weird. The entire bar is lit in blues and pinks and the clientele range from aging goths to whoever wants a drink past 2am. That's the upside about this place and also its downside. Expect either a completely coherent conversation with the person next to you or a rambling drawl about who knows what. There's usually a cover to get in, and don't expect any live music either. The cover is there just to keep the doors open it seems.
