pH Comedy Theater
While Chicago still has its share of the old cabaret-tables-and-two-drink-minimum–style comedy joints, it also has a fine tradition of less formal bar nights. Recently, we've seen a welcome influx of less conventional but still dedicated spaces for sketch, improv and stand-up. One such venue is owned and occupied by the decade-old improv and sketch group pH Productions, which acquired its own space in 2012, where it hosts ongoing weekly nights of open-mic stand-up, "pHarm House" student-team showcases and more.
