The favored vibe at this dingy, cramped Buena Park storefront is gritty, aggressive, you might even say macho—it’s not for nothing that Profiles is the de facto Chicago home of playwright Neil LaBute. But the acting on display inches from the audience is often quite good; when there’s quality material to match, evenings here can be unforgettable. Profiles recently acquired the former National Pastime Theater space two doors down and stages larger shows there, while maintaining its longtime home here for more intimate pieces.
