Basement restaurants have to work a lot harder than their ground-floor colleagues - they need to lure their punters with a guarantee of good food, rather than just the (all too often meretricious) promise of it through an inviting window. Here you'll find said food in the guise of French 'tapas' by the bar or more formal fare in the dining room. Considered by many to be the city's best wine bar, DAX has great food, charming staff and plush interiors.
