Open since May 2009, this sculpture park in the grounds of a 17th-century mansion house has been a stunning addition to the Edinburgh art scene. For the past few years, owners Robert and Nicky Wilson have been commissioning major artists to build pieces responsive to the landscape. They include the grassy slopes of Charles Jencks' Life Mounds as well as woodland work by Andy Goldsworthy, the late Ian Hamilton Finlay, Anish Kapoor and Antony Gormley. Wear sensible shoes and allow two hours to take it all in; and if you're driving, you'll need to book your car a space in advance.

We made the trip out to Jupiter after reading about it in a national paper. We happened to go on one of the loveliest summer days, which added to the experience, but I would recommend it regardless. A really interesting selection of sculptures, in very lovely grounds. Thoroughly enjoyable. And with a good (if slightly pricey) cafe. Note that it is easily accessible by bus if you don't have a car - you can get the 27/X27 from Regent Road near Wavereley Station, the journey is about 35 minutes each way.
