Apart from two paintings by Titan, this show concentrates solely on the type of frames popular in the sixteenth-century. Taking their name from the Italian architect and sculptor, Jacopo Sansovino, this showcase of thirty frames demonstrates the highly ornate Venetian style that became popular. Instead of a simple border, Sansovino frames were intricately carved, taking the form of architectural elements, garlands of fruit and even animals.
