Just past the Bluebird, the grand Beaufort House comprises a public bar at the front, of slightly continental appearance, and a back room where members may withdraw after midnight.

A large horseshoe bar counter is lined with stylish, turquoise-topped bar stools and surrounded by wooden, window-view tables; each is centrepieced by large menus detailing drinks, wines and food.

Cocktails, priced around £8, make ample use of Tanqueray gin, and Belvedere, Grey Goose and Ketel One vodkas; note, in particular, the Beaufort Garden of Tanqueray, fresh cucumber and home-made chamomile syrup.

The wine list runs to almost 100 labels; a humbler dozen by the glass include a sauvignon blanc Caliterra from Chile and a Stellenbosch Eikendal merlot. The food menu is just as smart as the rest of the surroundings.

Very Bad Experience! Rubbish! I didnt get the food in the door. They phoned me up 35 minutes before my booking time and cancelled my booking which i booked 10 days in advance for my wife's birthday. With such a short notice, we had no wherelse to go and ruined our evening. I try to reason with the manager but my money was no good. Be very very wary of this place!
