  • This is a great bar with a nice selection of ales, a cosy atmosphere and the WORST LANDLORD EVER. If you're a psych student and stuck for something to do on a Friday night I highly recommend you go to this bar if only to watch this man at work. He's the most paranoid agressive, and often racist man I've ever met. He seems to make a snap judgement on first meeting you whether he likes you or not and then once he's decided that he hates you throws you out for a reason that he then won't justify because he's the landlord and doesn't have to. Having lived in Kings Cross for many years I've watched many of my mates be thrown out for reasons I can only speculate on. Personally I'm waiting for this man either to be sectioned or go bankrupt because he can't stop abusing his customers or ideally both so I can enjoy myself in this bar again.

  • Nothing wrong with the pub per se, but I haven't a good word to say about the management. A friend I was with on a weeknight out was refused service 'for being patronising' to the landlord, though he claimed he'd literally asked for the round of drinks, having to repeat what he said because the landlord didn't initially understand his accent. This was 2 drinks into the evening (circa 8pm), nobody was drunk or badly behaved. The landlord would not explain what it was that had offended him; he said he didn't have to and he refused to serve anyone in our group (of 4). I wouldn't set foot in this pub again if it was the last hostelry on earth. This landlord is abusing his power. I have no idea why he wouldn't serve my friend, he simply wouldn't justify his decision.

  • King Charles the 1st is one surprising Pub! With a good selection of Ale, that they change all the time for the happinness of the customers of trying new Ales. Nice and cosy, tucked away in a little road, not far from the station (5 minutes walk), the decoration is very ethlectic and surprising, the bar staff warm and friendly, and the people in there are very electric and always up for a good laugh ... made a few friends myself! Highly recommended for anyone thats looking for a nice time without any troubles!!
