The Florist Arms

This great little spot is well worth the ten-minute walk from Bethnal Green tube: most of the people who’ll be filling the place will be regulars but by no means neighbours. Fresh flowers are dotted around the homely, cosy room and the pub name is etched into the mirror, though few other decorative details will be visible for the throng of sozzled grown-ups engaged in chat by the bar and seats around it.

Stowford Press cider, Brewer’s Gold, Camden Hells and Rothaus Pils come on draught, with Modelo Especial, Negra Modelo, Jupiler, Flensburger and Crabbie’s Ginger Beer by the bottle. There are also mixed drinks, such as a sloe and elderflower bramble (gin, sloe gin and elderflower liqueur) and a classic champagne cocktail, and decent pizzas (with gluten-free options).

Entertainment is provided by DJs and a piano in the corner; the rest of the time, it’ll be Neil Sedaka, the Bay City Rollers and other tacky faves.

Stumbled across this pub on a night out in Bethnal Green. I got there shortly before 10:00pm, allowing me enough time for a couple of pints at least before heading home, and wished I’d discovered it earlier in the evening. It was quite mild, so there were plenty of people outside. Being slightly off the beaten track, with its traditional style interior and feel of a community driven pub, I very quickly warmed to the place. I can’t recall all the beers on offer but plumped for a rather (alcoholically) strong pale ale, which could have been a guest ale.

Whether most in attendance were indeed locals was difficult to establish, but it had a friendly, lively and relaxed vibe and I certainly could have spent more time there. They also serve food for those arriving earlier than I did. A return trip is very likely.

Great pub, particularly at lunchtime when it is less crowded. I don't know what happened to make another reviewer call Dan surly. He is anything but! All the staff there are lovely and friendly. I'm only sorry the pub was the runner up and not the winner.

Surly service from Dan, otherwise a nice local with nice cider. Bar staff are hot, but only when it's busy and the doors are shut.

Great pub and also my local. I've spent many Sundays here consuming their pizza topped with wild boar sausage and a very well-made bloody mary. Good beers on tap too including Germany's Rotaus pilsner. Buzzing on Friday & Saturday nights with the occasional live jazz piano session.
