Toucan

Soho

With its prime location right off Soho Square, its customers sipping a pavement pint on sunny afternoons, the intimate two-floor Toucan could easily be mistaken for a Guinness museum: publicity posters for the black stuff cover the walls, overlooked by a trio of toucans.

At the bar, two varieties of the stout (one Extra Cold), Magners and Grolsch are served, along with Jameson’s on the optics and rarer whiskeys (Knappogue Castle, Clontarf Reserve). These days there are even spicy olives on the bar.

In the equally small (and darker) basement, where Jimi Hendrix once played, food is served: Irish stew, Rossmore County Cork oysters (£5 for six) and anything requiring ketchup. The Toucan tapas selection includes baked beans, so it’s far from pretentious.

There are also Guinness cocktails, a top-of-the-range Black Velvet of Guinness and champagne, or the poor man’s variety with cider instead.

Have to agree with the guys below only because I want their cocks in Guinness

Have to agree with post below. Guinness not poured properly but was fairly decent. Pricey though. Doesn't come anywhere close to the Auld Shillelagh.

Rory C

Good Guinness but if you want the actual best Guinness in London then go to The Shillelagh on Stoke Newington Church Street.

Poor service...a mouthy barman with an attitude still there ...dirty toilets !

Having had a nice time watching a 6 nations match, things turned sour when the barman asked us to buy another drink or leave....Nice, quaint place but a mouthy, bad tempered barman ruined this pubs charm entirely. We were chucked out because we had bought the wrong types of drinks apparently. Don't bother unless you want to be verbally abused.

I may live in Australia, and it is a huge commute, but this fine pup will always be the local in my heart. Duck or grouse lads.
