  • We ate at Coquine last night (also on a GroupOn deal) and although we enjoyed the food, the service was terrible. We arrived half an hour before the time of our booking and asked to have a cocktail first. This seemed to really confuse the waitress who didn't seem to understand much we said all evening. We waited to be served, despite the place being half empty. The service was slow and the cocktails were disgusting - thank goodness it was happy hour because I would not be happy paying £8.50 for what we received. The wait between our starter and main course was more than half an hour - even though we ordered them both when we arrived. As it was taking so long we asked for a bottle of wine - again the waitress needed my order repeated several times and then told me that she wasn't sure if it was available. I said we would have the house wine if it wasn't available and she went away. We waited. And waited. No wine came. She wandered around from table to table (it was busier by then) and didn't seem to even check about the availability of the wine. Our main courses arrived and still no wine. We asked another member of staff (who seemed a bit more senior) if he knew where our wine was and he offered to get it for us, but by that stage we had waited so long that we didn't want a full bottle. We ordered 2 glasses and held off eating our main courses while he got them for us. The desserts were served reasonably quickly. When the bill arrived we were charged for 3 cocktails (we had only had 2 and they were during happy hour so should have been 2 for 1) and a bottle of wine that we didn't have. They rectified it for us but the service was so bad that we will not be returning. Both of the waitresses who served us spoke such poor English that we had difficulty making ourselves understood each time we asked for anything. The food was ok, but would not be worth the price if we had not used GroupOn. Not recommended.

  • We went there on a Friday night with a groupon - having read other reviews with people saying they had arrived to find that they weren't booked in, I rang again to double check we were booked in - we weren't so I got them to rebook our table and took the name of the waiter, et voila, we had a table on arrival. Restaurant was half empty and the waitress couldn't speak English. The menu had been downsized and down-priced compared to what was online but the food was actually lovely. A bit confused about it's direction (they cant quite seem to grasp whether they're going for Morrocan / turkish or maybe italian with the themes of the food (certainly NOT french though, which is confusing with the name!) Food itself was lovely - rich creamy homemade houmous, steak although thin was great quality and mine actually CAME blue when I asked for it which is rare in London! House rose was nice and very drinkable and cheap at £4 a glass. Overall I would say it was "nice" if a bit confused...

  • Went to this place on Saturday nitght. Having read the reviews we did not know what to expect especially that we were coming down from North London. The place looked very very nice. It was very busy so we were offered to wait at the lounge downstairs. We went throught our Groupon offer of two proseccos but chose to carry on with some cocktails which were not included in the offer. Having waited for 25 minutes we were then shown to our table. We shared the starters and waitied for our mains. I must say, the steak was cooked properly and the missus liked the sea bass which was a major relief. Having enjoyed the food, we decided to stay for more cocktails. The only drawback was that I had to leave the car and took a black cab home which costed me more that the entire amazing experience. I highly recommend this place. Although not flawless, the service was sincere and enthusiastic. However, if you are looking for Michelin star food and experience, I would recommend to pay full price and try the West End usual suspects.

  • Unfortunately the experience received was utterly disappointing. At best it didn’t even reach mediocre Where do I start: International travel inspires culinary experimentation, hence the success of sea-food, continental breakfasts, and gravy boats. Give your taste buds a cultural feast. That’s what was promised on this experience but in fact what we got was a bog standard meal you would expect from a low run budget cafe on a builders yard let me start with how our night when. 1st we are not a fan of white wine so we chose not to take up the advantage of the free persecco and instead went for a bottle of red wine a 2008 bottle of pinot noir what we got was a 2009 bottle of vinegar and may I say the night didn’t get better. 2 the starters sounded nice we went for the calamari and prawn frittes where in fact you get squid rings with a sauce made from opening a jar of tahini and pouring in a ramekin and the prawns where tempura prawns which came out of a box which was served with a basic garlic mayo if i wanted this i could of went to a local supermarket. 3 the mains oh my god how bad they were on the site we were promised fillet steak and in fact it was Ribeye on the menu and when it arrived on my table it was a cheap cut of meat most probably a rump steak and I asked for medium it came well done and looking like road kill where it was so flat. We also asked for the mix grill medium and we got what looked like a remains of a BBQ that went wrong. 4 how could you get desserts wrong well guest what they did we ordered new York cheesecake and three scoops of ice cream what we got was a powdery texture cheesecake not creamy what so ever and the three scoops of ice cream if put together would make one whole scoop and where crystalized had water bits in side indicating that it was a cheap budget ice cream. The overall experience was how to say very laughable! Other thing i would like to point out is there was a very tasty kebab shop across the road where the food was so much better and the service was much better.

  • arrived on time... waited 30 minutes for our table. they didn't have shiraz or merlot (friday night) probably the laziest, rudest service I've ever encountered. the food was fine... nice but not great. when I was cheeky enough to ask for a desert menu it was practically thrown at me (one menu, for four of us) ran out of desserts awful, awful service. Will never, never go back

  • We went on a Thursday evening with a Groupon deal (£29 for a three course meal for two + a glass of Prosecco). First it was very hard to book a table as I had to call several times and when someone picked up, they kept me on the line for 2 minutes then hung up. I eventually managed to book a table but on the day, they did not have our name on the list. The tables are small and the seating quite uncomfortable. We went fot the prawn frittis for starter and were disappointed in the size of the dish (4 prawns), not worth the price on the menu (£7.50). We then chose Rib-eye steaks, we asked one well done and one medium rare but they both appeared to be cooked medium. The portion of chips was ridiculous. Steaks and chips were lacking seasoning and we had to ask for salt and ketchup. Finally out of the four desserts on the menu, only three were available that night so we chose the chocolate fondant which was good but could have had a scoop of ice cream on the side. All in all our experience in Coquine was decent considering the Groupon discount but we would never have payed full price.

  • Visited Coquine at the weekend (Sat 4 Feb) and had the worst experience in every way imaginable. RIght from the booking of the table (they had wrong day and time), service was poor to say the least. This, we could have lived with but the accumulation of mistakes from the point of ordering the drinks was an abundance of inconsistancies and just pure lack of customer service - not what you would expect for a restaurant in South Ken. Starters were inconsistant (same dish but some with sauces, some without). There was a complete lack of knowledge of the menu with staff not knowing which meal came with fries, and which didn't. (Our waiter handed me back the menu as he obviously couldn't be bothered to check himself ). Ironically, my friend ordered the same main as myself and she didn't get any fries at all. Basic school boy errors of no salt and pepper at the table (even that's fine - it happens) but when you ask for some, you don't expect to be given an empty salt grinder (which was perspex so obvious there was nothing inside). The absolute nail in the coffin was being served raw prawns (with the mixed grill..and yes, we took pictures in pure disbelief) , only to be told that 'the chef says they are supposed to be like that'. When asked to see the manager, he decided that his paying customers weren't important enough to attend to so only graced us with his presence after making us wait 25 minutes. Quite frankly his attitude was dismissive, rude and he showed no interest in the feedback that should have been passed straight back to the chef. The fact that we had pre paid the meal (with an offer), this so called 'manager' (Karmel ) made it quite clear that he was not interested in making any attempt to improve our evening. Infact, he told us he had other business to attend to and that he could not help us, then just walked off. Needless to say we left hungry, forfeiting our dessert . We did have a good bottle of wine though .. the only thing the chef couldn't ruin. Summary - Coquine: Unprofessional, rude and should be advertised with a big health warning.

  • We, a party of 6, who eat out regularly, had the worst restaurant experience at Coquine!  First, they mucked up our booking, it took us 4 long phone calls speaking to various people(including Shaheena & Kemal) to get the booking we originally asked for!  We had to be sat at a small crammed table which should sit 4 people instead of 6. Starters were inconsistent - 4 of us had the Calamari Fritti and 2 of us had the Prawn Fritti. The garnish was different on each plate and everything was served with the same tahini dip even though the menu stated otherwise. We asked the waiter about this and he actually had to bring the menu to us and have us, the customers, read the menu to him. The main course of Mixed Grill was ordered by two of us. Both plates had uncooked prawns which were still transparent and frozen in the middle. We told the staff of this and they returned to us with a message from the chef "the prawns are meant to be that way, they're cooked". This is ridiculous and a serious health worry.  We then asked to see the manager. We waited ten minutes and the manager had still not arrived. We asked to see the manager a second time. He failed to appear, it was only when we went to use the restroom that we saw him downstairs and asked if he was the manager. He claimed he did not know that customers were asking to see him. This is unacceptable but by now we did not care. We had finally got hold of the manager after a 25 minute wait. However, the manager(Kemal) was very unpleasant and unapologetic. He continuously made excuses for the poor service and uncooked food. And eventually, he left us without rectifying any of the problem. We left without finishing the main course and without ordering desserts, which we paid for already on Groupon!
