Crown & Goose

Camden

Set a little way from the main Camden beat, this is a delightfully relaxed gastropub, a polite young professional in casual after-work clothing.

The bar and the dining area fit around a half-hexagon bar counter, with the whole intimate single space imbued with the wafts of gravies and sauces from the kitchen at the back.

A soundtrack of Janis, Aretha and the Velvets plays as regulars sup on Sagres, Adnams or Guinness (or bottles of Leffe, Budvar and Moretti) against a backdrop of framed butterflies and circular brass light-holders. Laphroaig, Bushmills and other whiskies are served over the cramped bar counter, while diners at the back tuck into pan-fried salmon, butternut squash Thai curry and the inevitable steaks.

Crown and Goose made me LOVE fish and chips. After trying fish and chips in a variety of restaurants I thought I just wasn't a fish and chips type of girl, but this place converted me. The atmosphere is very traditional pub, nothing fancy but there is a nice fireplace in the back. The waiter, Scott, is always a good time providing lots of laugh. Great place, not many tourists, and most importantly AMAZING food!

Excellent pub. Great manager and bar staff. Food used to be amazing few years ago, but lost it a bit now- Still a great place to meet up with friends during lunch or after dark...!

I've been here for pub lunches on a couple of occasions and have found the food to be really delicious, particularly the steak sandwich, which was made with juicy, tender pieces of perfectly cooked steak and served with amazing crispy potato things. I wish I lived nearer as would visit here more often. Have found the barstaff to be slightly sarcastic on one occasion but think it was meant in good humour. Would recommend the food highly.
