Far enough from the beaten track to attract only the occasional irregular, the delightful Colton Arms is warming in winter (trusty fireplace) and convivial in summer ('Biergarten' out back).

At some point in the dim and distant, somebody seems to have tried to build a tourist trade by naming the toilets 'Sires' and 'Wenches' and hanging up all manner of tankards and horse brasses, not to mention a royal crest of unknown European heritage, but visits by the Osaka branch of the Sharp's Doom Bar Appreciation Society are rare.

A sturdy cash till, guarded by a portrait of a late, lamented mastiff, registers a pre-decimal ring-up; a clock may chime while you order. If this place were a little more TARDIS-shaped (it does its best), you'd swear you'd walked into an episode of Doctor Who.

One of the best pub's i've been too in the world. yes the world. The atmosphere, staff, draft list are all amazing. I'll mention the staff again, great landlords through and through. I don't know what these time out people are on about, the taste of the people clearly differs from theirs.

Only decent pub in West London, if not the capital. All the better for not having any tossers from Time Out in there, who clearly have no idea what a good pub is, and probably think the curtains up round the corner is brilliant. Long live the local.

2/5 stars only!!! Verrrry clever, huh!
As a foreigner (=stupid tourist) I've visited about 100-150 pubs in London and this place is one of the best, right at this moment the best of them.
Beer was perfect, staff like your old friends, regulars inquisitive and atmosphere homelike.
What else... yes: salad with the toast was so delectable you feel you're not in Britain. Was this a screwup then?

Quite simply a rare, rare pub with proper locals, a proper landlord, and good ales. This pub is simply essential.

Please don't let this travesty of a review put you off!

The Colton Arms is quite simply the perfect pub!

Warm, friendly and changeless!

It was my regular after work local for only a few years in the mid to late 80's and ever since whenever I am back in London I always make a point of visiting the Colton Arms. Each time with trepidation that it might have changed and each time I am amazed to find not only the exact same pub that I left but with the same engaging and friendly atmosphere.

This is my favourite pub in the World, and I have travelled extensively.

Forget the soulless chains you can so easily get drawn into on the Fulham Palace or North End Road, take a 5 minute stroll in between and you will stumble upon this gem. Get served a good choice of ales by the friendly family staff, (they've a few good stories about the pubs history if you ask) and enjoy a relaxing pint in an environment that takes you far away from the stresses of the city. Truly the jewel of West London - this pub is a real find. The fact that it is a little off the beaten track only adds to its charm!

This pub is a real gem and posesses a friendly atmosphere that one can normally only experience in the countryside far from the centre of London. To give it just 2 stars is simply criminal. If you want a change from the monotonous, chain run, bland bar that not dominates 95% of the capital look no further, it is worth the trip.

Woeful review of a wonderful establishment. I'd have hoped the review might actually say what the place was like - the atmosphere, the punters, but no. This is a real genuine pub with that most intangible of qualities: heart. No front of house staff, no £15 dishes containing a 'reduction of jus', no hipsters, no hangers on, no wannabes. You can see why TO don't like it.
