Don't be fooled by the all-singing, all-dancing slickness of the Hemingford's website: the pub itself is something of a shambles, and much the better for its idiosyncracies.

Nothing much changes here: a baffling multitude of jumble-sale pub ephemera still hangs from the walls and the ceilings, the food is still stomach-lining Thai, the three or so ales are still good enough, and the locals are still a pleasingly talkative and egalitarian mix of classes and ages.

Events run from quiz night to a weekly bluegrass session (Mondays from around 9pm), but many of the regulars only have eyes for the big-screen football. Any semblance of a sign outside has long since been covered by the ivy that drapes over almost every inch of the frontage.
