Unlike some of its local rivals, the Sun Inn doesn't enjoy a view of the Thames, but it's got the next best thing: from the large front terrace, drinkers can gaze out on to Barnes Green and its village-like duck pond.

The interior amplifies the old-fashioned nature of the place, with bar staff and customers on first-name terms in the cramped, low-ceilinged space. Although it feels like one of those City pubs rebuilt after the Great Fire, the Sun Inn doesn't make much of its history but lets the drinks do the talking: ales such as Sharp's Doom Bar, Adnams Wheat Beer and Timothy Taylor Landlord are all attractive finds on draught.

There are a few treasures by the bottle, too, mainly Belgian: Duvel and Vedett, for example. Wines start with a cheapish but acceptable Italian at £13; tippling is encouraged over conversation with strangers on Wednesdays at the pub's In Vino Veritas theme nights.

Is this a pub or restaurant? This was my local, somewhere you could find a table and have a quiet drink. Now the majority of tables are booked (you just don't book tables in a pub!!). A pub used to be a place for adults, now the place is full of kids running wild whilst their parents are too busy chatting with friends and seem oblivious to what their kids are doing!! Sometimes you can't move for the massive push chairs that the yummy mummies bring in. I used to love this pub but now I tend to give it a wide berth.

4 stars as a pub and 3 stars as a gastro pub. Atmosphere and beers are very good, I only had a great experience from both of the barmen working who were chatty and friendly. The food was very acceptable in the way that if i was drinking there I wouldn't have to leave to go and eat somewhere else, but I would not make a special effort to go there for the food. With the layout the pub feels cosy, even though it is quite large. Quiz was also good.

Was always a pretty good pub but now the staff are useless and unfriendly.tables left uncleared for hours and throwing out time is abrupt. Bring back the old team where good banter and fun where had.
